Everything Your Eyes Need — In a Single Visit

Your eyes work every waking moment of every day, and yet most people never give them a thorough check until something goes wrong. A comprehensive eye check-up at RGC Eye Hospital is a complete assessment of your eye health and vision — designed to catch problems early, give you a clear picture of your eye health, and ensure that any conditions developing silently in the background are identified and addressed before they affect your life.

What Is a Comprehensive Eye Check-up?

A comprehensive eye check-up is far more thorough than a simple vision test. It is a full clinical assessment carried out by an experienced ophthalmologist that examines every aspect of your eye health — from your visual acuity and refraction to the health of your cornea, lens, retina, optic nerve, and the pressure inside your eye. It combines multiple tests and examinations into a single, coordinated visit that gives you and your doctor a complete and accurate picture of where your eyes stand today.

What Does the Check-up Include?

  • Visual acuity testing — measuring how clearly you can see at distance and near
  • Refraction assessment — determining your exact glasses or contact lens prescription
  • Eye pressure measurement (NCT) — screening for glaucoma
  • Anterior segment examination — checking the cornea, iris, and lens under a slit lamp
  • Dilated fundus examination — a thorough look at the retina, macula, and optic nerve
  • Assessment of eye movements and alignment
  • Discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and family eye history

What Happens During the Visit?

Step 1 — History and Symptoms

Your ophthalmologist begins by discussing your vision, any symptoms you have noticed, your general health, any medications you take, and your family history of eye disease. This context shapes the entire examination that follows.

Step 2 — Vision and Refraction

Your vision is tested at distance and near. If needed, your ophthalmologist will determine your exact prescription and advise whether a change to your glasses or contact lenses is recommended.

Step 3 — Pressure and Front of Eye

Your eye pressure is measured painlessly. The front of the eye — including the cornea, anterior chamber, iris, and lens — is examined carefully under the slit lamp.

Step 4 — Dilated Examination

Dilating drops are applied to widen your pupils, allowing your ophthalmologist to examine the retina, macula, vitreous, and optic nerve in full detail. This is the most important part of the examination for detecting retinal and optic nerve conditions.

Step 5 — Discussion and Plan

Your ophthalmologist discusses the findings with you clearly and honestly, answers your questions, and advises on any treatment, further testing, or follow-up that is needed.

Who Should Have a Comprehensive Eye Check-up?

Everyone benefits from a regular comprehensive eye check — but it is particularly important for people over 40, those with diabetes or high blood pressure, anyone with a family history of glaucoma or macular degeneration, and anyone who has noticed any change in their vision. Many serious eye conditions develop without any symptoms — and a comprehensive check-up is the only way to catch them early.
